Lowering Property Taxes, Creating a Fair Tax System

Long Islanders pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation and are desperate for real tax reform. Young people cannot afford to live where they grew up and are leaving in droves, while working families and seniors find it increasingly difficult to remain in their homes.

In the State Assembly, Joe Ferrara will fight to lower our property taxes and create a fair and just tax system. He will work to find real solutions that lower property taxes while ensuring that our schools get the funding they deserve. He supports:

• Expanding the “circuit-breaker” program that sets a limit on how much a family pays in property taxes based on income. This will provide targeted relief to seniors, working families, and young people struggling to achieve the dream of home ownership.

Providing Clean, Affordable Energy Alternatives, Protecting Our Environment

Working to provide Long Islanders with clean, affordable energy alternatives is one of Joe Ferrara’s top priorities. He believes that investing in renewables is the only real way to solve our current energy crisis. 

As our new Assemblyman, Joe Ferrara will support efforts to make clean energy alternatives more accessible and affordable to our community and work to protect our environment. Some solutions include:  

• Expanding state grants to homeowners and businesses that build green or invest in improving energy efficiency.

• Increasing incentives and tax rebates for solar power, hybrid cars, and other clean technologies

• Restoring our downtowns and creating walkable communities 

• Expanding mass transit options for Long Islanders

Providing our children with a world-class education is essential not only to their success but to the success of Long Island’s economy.

As our new Assemblyman, Joe Ferrara will fight to make sure Long Island schools get their fair share of state aid and work to strengthen SUNY so that every student has a fair shot at a high quality college education. He also supports:

Creating Affordable Housing

The lack of affordable housing on Long Island, combined with high property taxes, is a critical reason that our young, educated professionals are leaving the area. As our Assemblyman, Joe Ferrara will work to create affordable housing through use of tax incentives and abatements to construct new housing and apartments.

Clean Elections, Full Public Financing for Campaigns

Joe Ferrara believes that government should be accountable to the people it represents. That’s why he is in favor of voluntary, full public financing of elections. The Clean Elections model used successfully by other states provides competitive funding for candidates that can demonstrate support among small donors. This voluntary, common-sense model allows candidates to be competitive without relying on special interests and large donors.
